THE HEART OF THE HOUSE
At every place and stage of life, Compass chefs are proud to be there. Where teamwork drives excellence and innovation meets purpose, our 200,000 culinarians worldwide transform food into celebration, comfort, connection and community.
Chef Appreciation Week (September 7th-13th) is the biggest global celebration of chefs, uniting 30+ countries and the industry every year — all made possible through our partnership with founder Donald Crutch.
“It’s an incredible feeling to be recognized! This celebration has a huge impact on the culinary community. We’re all proud when the heart of house receives appreciation.”
Jerl Griffin, Thompson Hospitality
Regional Executive Chef, 2024 Chef of the Year

HISTORY
HISTORY
HOW IT ALL STARTED
The background of Chef Appreciation Week can be traced back to Donald and Lisa Crutch of the organization called Chefs Against Cancer who were driven to
recognize all chefs for their dedication, love of culinary and willingness to serve their community for the common good.
2013: Donald and Lisa Crutch co-founded Chef Appreciation Week to honor all those serving in the culinary industry.
2018: Compass Group USA partnered with the Crutch family to celebrate Chef Appreciation Week in our cafés and restaurants nationwide.
2019: When Donald Crutch unexpectedly passed away, Compass pledged to carry on his legacy with a commitment to make it a global campaign.
Today: Chef Appreciation Week is now the largest celebration of chefs and culinarians globally, supported globally by Compass Group in all its markets as well as externally by other food and hospitality businesses.
